DC Construction Can Help You Build More Fun Into Your Backyard!

Vermont summers are a long time coming and often too short when they finally do arrive, so finding ways to maximize the use of your outdoor backyard space is crucial.
One way to do that is to add a porch, deck or patio to your home, according to David Cone, owner of DC Construction of Burlington, VT which specializes in quality, custom-built additions and decks.
"We can design anything to fit your needs as well as creating an environment in your backyard," explains Cone, who started the business in 1987. "We can take a normal backyard and turn it into a new living environment."
Cone emphasizes the need for planning and designing the projects to meet your requirements. "DC Construction takes the time and makes the effort to create and build a project that will be enjoyed by you and future owners. Our projects will only appreciate in value and that's why we take the extra time and effort in the planning stages."
Cone's devotion to planning pays off in satisfied customers. One family from South Burlington wrote to him about a deck and gazebo project he designed and built. "We are as excited about it this year as we were after you finished it last year and can't wait for warm weather," they wrote.
One of the things that sets DC Construction apart from other builders is Cone's Experience in the construction business. His father was a builder in Manchester, VT, and Cone recalls helping out for the first time when he was only eight. By age 13, he was well versed in the tools and tricks of the trade, working alongside his father.
Cone graduated from the University of Vermont (UVM) in 1988 with a degree in small business management. The summer before he graduated, Cone operated DC Construction on a limited basis. With his degree in hand, Cone jumped into the construction business full-time and is always fully involved.
"As owner/builder, I am involved in all aspects from the initial meeting to being on the job everyday doing the construction. Coming from a background of over 70 years of building experience, I can and have drawn on experience that is proven and unmatched. My knowledge of building comes from building for 25 years and 15 years of custom building. Our quality shows in all aspects."
Cone adds that the soundness of the structure is just as important as the aesthetics. "That is what is going to determine the longevity of your project," he says.
Another factor in any home renovation or addition project is price. DC Construction prides itself on building the highest quality structures at the fairest price. "We always go the extra yard to make sure you are satisfied. Our references will attest to our high quality craftsmanship, professionalism and fairness in pricing."
Cone is also happy to work with homeowners on simply designing a project or providing construction assistance and expertise for those who prefer to put a little "sweat equity" into their projects.
If you have a home that does not have the ability to have a structure attached, Cone suggests a gazebo. "A screened-in gazebo can provide a great summer room for relaxation, shade and dining without the bugs. It makes for a whole new atmosphere in your yard," he notes.
The materials used play a significant part in the success of any project. Weather-resistant, pressure-treated wood, cedar or redwood can be combined in a variety of ways to meet any budget. "A deck with pressure-treated decking and cedar railing can provide the durability that pressure-treated provides and the rich look that the cedar provides, all at an economical price." Cone says he personally inspects all the lumber used to make sure it is of the highest quality.
The customer always has the last word with DC Construction, Cone says, and the following sums up the typical response to his work.
"We highly recommend your work. Your professionalism and attention to detail were very impressive. You were always friendly and polite, always cleaned up the yard before you left, came when you said you would and always returned our calls. If we sound like happy customers, we are!"
